Thanks to a grant from Amplify Change, awarded in 2020, we could hire several new trainee Trainers who would help us teach the next generation about their rights.
You’ve already met Speciose…now it’s time to meet: Aline-Nicole!
Aline, what inspired you to join Paper Crown as a trainee?
Because it’s an amazing NGO that does interesting work for youth and the Rwandan community! When I saw the application that Paper Crown Rwanda needs trainers - first of all being a trainer was one of my goals, which means it was like a sign for me. I got excited about it and I immediately ran to their website, where I loved the amazing programs they did. I have also been very inspired with Clementine’s work and want to step into her shoes.
What do you do aside from working with Paper Crown?
I am a mentor and career guidance counsellor at an NGO called FAWE Rwanda Chapter from 2015 till now, where I have 78 girls studying in University. Normally there are in 2 groups and we do have a session weekly where I prepare a topic (relating to life, behaviours, career growth, etc…) to discuss in 3 hours. I really enjoy exchanging ideas with young people, especially girls, and guiding them in so many different areas.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Ice-breakers with the girls are so fun and we all enjoy them and laugh a lot! Another fun part is when the girls were practicing verbal and physical self-defence.
What’s the most challenging part of the job for you?
There were no such challenges during the job - only that the girls were too shy to share with us their opinions at the beginning, but with time they get used to the trainers and share their ideas well.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned during your training?
My voice is my power. I have value! I have value! My voice is important.
If you could teach the next generation one important thing, what would it be?
I would like to teach the next generation that there is power in their voices so that they may use them. And another one is the very useful tips on how to defend themselves when being attacked by anyone.
Thank you Aline! We know our new recruits will make an immense difference in the lives of young girls and boys throughout Rwanda and help teach the next generation how to stop perpetuating gender discrimination.
